Disabilities Strategies I
Description
In this course, students will examine and discuss the developmental effects (psychological & behavioral) of having an exceptionality on children and adults. Students will examine the impact on family dynamics, academic programming, the role of the educational assistant and training techniques to teach fundamental academic and life skills in a variety of settings. Current inclusionary practices are a focus of learning and discussion in both the school system and the greater community. Students will focus on Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Communication Disorders, Developmental Disabilities, and Pervasive Developmental Disorders. The impact on assessment, education, and care in a multicultural society will also be discussed.
