Person Centered Planning and Advocacy

Description

In this course, students will engage in group interactions to develop their communication and facilitation skills. Students will discover their own communication style, the styles of others, and how to adjust their own style when necessary to improve communication and relationships. With self-exploration, students will improve the soft skills necessary to make an impact on their own lives and the lives of those they are supporting through direct support and advocacy. This course places an emphasis on person-centered planning tools. Students will learn how to use various tools, develop a person-centered plan using the tools and facilitate a person-centered planning meeting. A focus on community mapping and becoming a community connector will help students to facilitate relationships between those they support and their local communities. Students will review and become familiar with the Ministries that provide community services and the Quality Assurance Measures specific to person-centered planning.
