Project Initiation

Description

In this course, students will learn principles that have evolved into best practices that guide today’s project management. Concepts that will be explored include defining both a project, and project management. In addition, relationships amongst project management, program management, and portfolio management, as well as project management offices (PMOs), will be examined. Students will understand how these are inter-connected, and how these all are intended to provide business value and support the organization’s overall strategic goals. Further concepts that students will gain an understanding of, include the organizational influences on project management, the importance of governance, project teams, and project life cycles. Finally, project management process will be identified to create an overarching framework of how all ten knowledge areas and five phases should interact to produce a successful project outcome.
